Student Highlight
December Student Leader of the Month
Congratulations to George Nunez, our student leader of the month for December! We’d like to celebrate and recognize George for his efforts and contribution made this past November. George is a combat veteran who served in the Marine Corps from 2015-2019, our pre-nursing program brought him to Highline. During his time on campus, he was able to find a home within the Highline College Community, especially at the Veterans Services Office where he noted they treated him like family.
According to George, he was inspired to be a student leader because:
“I noticed that many of my peers were very nervous and hesitant in taking a chance in being leaders so I decided to lead by example and show them that they do not have to be scared in taking action. I wanted to set an example for others to emulate in order to show them that they too can be leaders.”
And that he did! George volunteered to be the Director of Highline College’s national team, working with students in Jordan on a Global Solutions Challenge. He is known to go the extra mile in his duties, being someone that not only students can depend on but staff and faculty as well. His leadership is exemplary and although he is no longer on active duty with the U.S. Marines, George still manages to stay at the top of his game. Outside of Highline, one of his favorite hobbies is working out, he also works at the Bellevue Gun Club as a Firearms Instructor and Range Safety Officer. Continuing to serve his community wherever he goes. Thank you for your service George! We are honored to have you as a student leader and appreciate the initiative you’ve taken at Highline.
The Associated Students of Highline College recognize the student leader of the month a with a certificate of appreciation and $100 scholarship.
