Highline College offers a variety of retention programs geared towards supporting students on a quarterly basis until they earn their degree. Students who would benefit from being part of a cohort, working with a dedicated advisor, participating in community activities, and attending academic success workshops should apply to the program below. Applications are currently being accepted for this year’s cohort (ending Spring 2025).

HCAP – Retention Program
HCAP – Retention is a free one-year program (ending Spring 2025) designed to help students persist from one quarter to the next during their academic career at Highline College. Students will have access to a dedicated advisor, be invited to community activities, and be encouraged to participate in a variety of academic success workshops to enhance their educational experience. HCAP – Retention helps students with:
- Building Academic Skills
- Connecting with Resources
- Creating Academic Plans
- Developing Grade Improvement Plans
- Enrolling in Classes
- Meeting Other Students
- Navigating Institutional Processes (e.g., Entry Advising, Financial Aid, Registration & Records)
- Preparing to Transfer
- Understanding Degree Requirements
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for HCAP – Retention, a student must be currently enrolled at Highline College. The following criteria are not required, but will receive priority:
- First-Generation
- Low-Income
- Not Participating in Highline College Support Program (e.g., ASEM, Highline Promise, MESA, TRiO Student Support Services [SSS], TRiO Talent Search [TS], Umoja)
- Does Not Require Specialized Advising Services (e.g., Career Start Students, English Language, Career, & Academic Prep [ELCAP] Students, High School Programs Students, International Student Programs [ISP] Students, Running Start [RS] Students)
