We Care – Students Experiencing Hardship and Crisis

Overview & Purpose

If you are a student or if you know of a student who is going through personal hardship, the following information may help. The information is meant to be concise and straightforward. However feel free to contact our CARE team (CARE@highline.edu) or the resource listed below if you need direct assistance.

What is Hardship and Crisis?

A hardship and/or crisis can be a personal, financial, mental health and other matters that may cause distress (which may make it more challenging to focus on being a student). 

This includes but is not limited to: 

  • Death in the family
  • Debilitating sickness or illness 
  • Lost of financial stability: lost a job (self, parent/guardian), extraordinary medical expenses 
  • Issues of safety (domestic violence/intimate partner violence/stalking)
  • Homelessness (don’t have a place to live), or notice of eviction 
  • Decline in mental health
